Shield of Sparrows

By Devney Perry

The gods sent monsters to the five kingdoms to remind mortals they must kneel.

I’ve spent my life kneeling―to their will and to my father's. As a princess, my only duty is to wear the crown and obey the king.

I was never meant to rule. Never meant to fight. And I was never supposed to be the daughter who sealed an ancient treaty with her own blood.

But that changed the fateful day I stepped into my father’s throne room. The day a legendary monster hunter sailed to our shores. The day a prince ruined my life.

Now I’m crossing treacherous lands beside a warrior who despises me as much as I despise him―bound to a future I didn’t choose and a husband I barely know.

Everyone wants me to be something I’m not―a queen, a spy, a sacrifice.

But what if I refused the role chosen for me? What if I made my own rules? What if there’s power in being underestimated?

And what if―for the first time―I reached for it?

My Queen 🫠🫠🫠

Denvey Perry knocked it out of the park with her debut fantasy. There is just something so special about fantasy books written by romance authors. The tension??? *chef’s kiss* The slow burn?? Deliciously worth it! The plot twists?? While I saw some coming some completely blew my mind. The world building was actually done so well. The places felt so real and the monsters were a fun twist on a magic system in this book.

There were a few points were the story dragged a bit but all the action in the second half of the book definitely made up for it.

All the characters were very likable and easy to root for. Especially Odessa. She was smart in all the ways that mattered and I liked how she was so willing to adapt to the new cultures she was exposed to and willing to fight even though she didn’t have much experience. I hope we get more dual POV in the future books because I very much enjoyed the snippet at the end 🤞

I’m excited to get deeper into this world in the future books and learn more about Odessa, Zavier, and The Guardian.

Thank you Red Tower and Denver Perry for the physical ARC 🫶💫
